Dayhoff microbiome Age Research Edition

We’re launching a study to better understand childhood allergies. By purchasing the Dayhoff Gut Test, you may help advance scientific research into the potential connection between the infant (and maternal) gut microbiome and the development of allergies. In collaboration with Free to Feed, we plan to share our findings through a published study once the research is complete.

Over 40% of school-aged children in North America have at least one chronic health condition

And the rate may be even higher in infants and toddlers. Recent research suggests a strong connection between the gut microbiome and the development of the atopic march — a progression that includes eczema, food allergies, asthma, and allergic rhinitis. However, key challenges remain:

  • While atopic conditions are becoming increasingly common, research is still limited.
  • There is even less data on early-life allergies, such as cow’s milk protein allergy and sensitivities to breastmilk.
  • More research is urgently needed to uncover deeper insights, improve diagnostics, and guide potential treatment options.

Contribute to Advancing Research in Childhood Allergies

Gain valuable insights through gut microbiome testing and explore the connection between your baby’s gut health and immune development. By participating, you’re not only helping your child—you’re also supporting groundbreaking research that could help other families uncover the root causes of childhood allergies.

Let’s come together to uncover the root cause of childhood allergies and eczema

The study is now complete — thank you for your interest and support!

About Dayhoff

Driving Personalized Medicine with Next-Generation Research

Dayhoff integrates cutting-edge data science, deep learning, and a robust bioinformatics repository to advance personalized medicine. From families seeking actionable health insights to research labs exploring intricate datasets, our patented technology and expert partnerships deliver transformative results.

How does the Research Edition work?

This study is available exclusively to individuals who have purchased a Dayhoff baby gut test kit.
To help advance research on the vital connection between a mother’s and baby’s gut microbiome, we recommend that moms also submit their own gut sample—available at a discounted rate when bundled with the baby’s test.

Stool samples can be easily collected at home using our dry swab method, directly from soiled toilet tissue or a diaper.

Participants will be asked to complete short surveys after submitting samples and again at the end of the study period, contributing valuable data to support ongoing research into childhood allergies.

All samples are processed in a CLIA-certified lab using Dayhoff’s proprietary technology, offering strain-level accuracy and a full profile of the gut microbiome—including bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites, and archaea. Results are typically delivered within 4–5 weeks.

This research-edition gut test is designed for families with children aged 0–3 years who have been formally diagnosed by a healthcare provider (official documentation required) with one or more of the following conditions:

  • Eczema
  • Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA)
  • IgE-mediated food allergy
  • Non-IgE-mediated food allergy (e.g., FPIES, EoE, FPAIP, FPE, or celiac disease)
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Food sensitivity to breastmilk and/or other immunological or gastrointestinal disorders

If a child does not have one of the listed diagnoses, they may still be eligible to participate in the control arm of the study.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The child must have an eligible diagnosis confirmed by a healthcare provider
  • Participants must have purchased a Dayhoff baby gut test
  • No probiotic use within the last 2 months
  • No antibiotic use within the last 2 months (intrapartum and topical antibiotics are permitted)

Each report includes a personalized expert note, carefully reviewed by Dayhoff’s team of microbiome specialists.
You’ll also receive evidence-based, actionable recommendations designed to support your baby’s gut health and give them the best possible start in life.

Please note: The microbiome report and action plan are part of Dayhoff’s standard Gut Test product and are not directly linked to the research study.

As a thank-you for completing all required surveys, you’ll receive $50 off your next two purchases, bringing the price of your next gut test down to just $149.
